SUPREME EFFORT

DEMANDED OF THE ALLIES THIS YEAR DECLARATION BY SOVIET AMBASSADOR. OFFENSIVE THE BEST STRATEGY. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, March 25. A plea for an all-out effort by the United Nations this year was made by M. Maisky (Soviet Ambassador) in a speech at the Russian Embassy.

“The enemy stakes everything on 1942." M. Maisky declared. “He intends in the spring and summer to make a supreme effort for victory. The Allies must also stake everything on 1942 and must also make a supreme effort in the spring and summer’ to beat the enemy. This is the best strategy. The Allies, together, already have the essential implements for victory. There is no time to wait until the last button is sewn on the tunic of the last' soldier—l 942 is the decisive year and the Russian front is the decisive place. We must start from there. If the Allies really desire victory, and I have no doubt they do, the Allies must throw in everything they have got. How, when and where is a matter for the Allied General Staff, but the important thing is that the whole work of the Allied Staff must be imbued with one thought and one idea—l 942, not 1943.”
