MAN WHO SAILED TASMAN SINGLE-HANDED. TALK OF DILLY-DALLYING IN NEW ZEALAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) HOBART, March 23. Unless definite advice is received from the New Zealand police within a week, it is likely that Richard Humphreys, who came from the Dominion in an auxiliary launch which he sailed single-handed, will be released from Hobart gaol. This was indicated by the city police magistrate, Colonel Clark, when Humphreys today reappeared on remand on a charge of escaping from Waikeria Borstal Institute. A solicitor, Mr E. W. Turner, today appeared for Humphreys on instructions from England. Mr Turner stated that there was evidently knowledge in England of Humphreys's arrest, and he had been asked to get into communication with people in New Zealand who were also interested in his case. The police magistrate said the New Zealand authorities had dilly-dallied for weeks, and even now there was no news of an escort. He suggested that a cablegram be sent to New Zealand in strong terms emphasising that, unless extradition proceedings were expedited, it was possible that Humphreys would be discharged. Humphreys made no application for bail and a further remand was granted.
