PERSONAL
The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of National Service, is visiting Christchurch. The Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Health, who is visiting Taranaki, will return to Wellington tomorrow. Mrs C. Gray, Cole Street, will leave Masterton at the end of the month to reside in Palmerston North. The death occurred at Martinborough yesterday of Mr James George Mahood, a well known resident, at the age of 78 years. The Hon. J. G. Barclay, Minister of Marketing, left Wellington tonight for Otago and Southland. He expects to be away for about a week. News has been received that Pte R. R. Brown, brother of Sgt. Wallace Brown, Masterton, has been killed in action in the Middle East. The mother of the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, Mr W. J. Jordan, will be 90 years of age today. Mr Jordan's mother lives at Cheltenham, England. Mr S. G. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, visited Auckland during the weekend. He met National Party supporters in Hamilton last night, and is expected to return to Wellington tomorrow morning. Colonel J. W. Craven, medical superintendent of Auckland hospital, who was officer commanding the Alexandra military hospital in Singapore, is posted missing. He also held the position of senior officer for the Malayan medical services. Mrs E. K. Waters, who has been a visitor to Masterton for some months while her husband has been stationed at Fiji, loft today for New Plymouth to attend the marriage at her neice, Miss Dorothy Hollins, at “Cardiff," Stratford, and Miss K. M. Stevens accompanied her.
