HOSTILITY TO AXIS
MORE DEMONSTRATIONS IN LATIN AMERICAN LANDS. STUDENT RIOT IN SANTIAGO. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 9.45 a.m.) SANTIAGO, March 18. Students smashed the windows of Axis-owned shops, as a protest, against the torpedoing of a Chilean freighter, off the United States. The youths shouted for an immediate diplomatic break. Fifteen demonstrators were arrested. A Government spokesman indicated that the sinking at present does not affect relations with Germany.
DISORDER IN MONTEVIDEO (Received This Day. 9.45 a.m.) MONTEVIDEO, March 18. Heavy police guards have been placed at the German Legation, follow-* ing upon student riots, occasioned by the sinking of an Uruguayan ' merchantman off the coast of Haiti. Several youths were injured during a dispersal by the police, wielding sticks.
