ROTARY CLUB
WEEKLY LUNCHEON MEETING. TALKS BY MEMBERS. The weekly luncheon meeting of the Masterton Rotary Club was held at the Y.M.C.A. rooms today, the president, Mr Norman Lee, presiding over a good attendance of members. The session was divided into three short talks by members, Mr E. G. Coddington leading off with a brief outline of the mental testing of illiterates with special reference to the type of test used in the American Army in the' last war. The talk was illustrated by a number of interesting charts of tests used in various parts of the world. Mr Coddington was then followed by Mr H. H. Daniell who spoke on the erection of “comfort stations” throughout New Zealand and in particular in Masterton. The suggestion was made that it should be possible to widen Church Street opposite the old “Daily Times” site and locate a “comfort station” in the middle of Church Street. The last speaker was Mr J. G. S. Thompson who spoke on banking and produced instructions issued in copper-plate writing to the managers of banks in the Colonial possessions about the year 1843. It was interesting to note how the principles of banking there laid down held good at the present day. On the motion of Mr A. C. Tatton a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the speakers for their interesting addresses.
