FIGHTING IN LIBYA

HAMPERED BV BAD WEATHER LESS SEEN OF ENEMY. BRITISH AIRCRAFT ACTIVE. LONDON, March 18. With bad weather in Libya, our forward troops have seen much less of the enemy. One of our columns, southwest of Gazala, drove back enemy forces in an artillery duel. A German column which earlier had been reported to be advancing south of Mekili has withdrawn. In spite of difficult weather our air fighters arc taking an active part in operations in the forward area. The aerodrome at Barce was attacked by our bombers. Other targets were shipping at Benghazi and objectives at Catania, in Sicily. In air fighting over Malta a Junkers bomber was brought down by antiaircraft fire. One British plane has been lost in all the latest operations.
