OBITUARY
MRS M. A. CARPENTER. The death occurred early this morning of an old and highly respected resident of Masterton in the person of Mrs M. A. Carpenter relict of the late Mr J. Carpenter, in her 85th year. The late Mrs Carpenter was born in Victoria, and came to New Zealand as a child with her parents settling on the West Coast. She was married to Mi’ Carpenter at Greymouth in 1879 and came to Masterton that year, having lived in Dixon Street, Masterton, ever since. Though she took no part in public affairs in Masterton, she gave her support to many local projects, being particularly interested in horticulture. Mr Carpenter died in 1918. The late Mrs Carpenter leaves a family of one sen (Mr R. AV. Carpenter, Mayor of Waipukurau), and five daughters, Mesdames F. R. Evans, M. Martin, Masterton; B. Bobbie, Motueka; R. Black, Wellington, and Miss W. Carpenter (Masterton). A son, Mr J. K. Carpenter, died in 1919. The funeral will take place on Saturdajr afternoon, leaving the residence, Dixon Street, at 2.30 p.m .for the Masterton Cemetery.
