SAFE BACK IN PORT

WARSHIPS WHICH SHELLED RHODES. SPOTTED BUT NOT ATTACKED BY AXIS AIRCRAFT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, March 17. The warships which bombarded Rhodes have safely reached port. A correspondent aboard a warship said it was remarkable that the attacking warships were not themselves attacked, because when they had been at sea for two days they were spotted by enemy planes, and disclosed themselves within four miles of the enemy coast. Reuter’s correspondent says the attack has considerably lessened the usefulness of Rhodes.
