HOME GUARD
BOROUGH COUNCIL TO BUY MORE UNIFORMS. PAYMENT OUT OF OWN FUNDS. The Masterton Borough Council decided last night to expend up to £75 for the provision of about 50 more uniforms for the Home Guard. The Mayoi. Mr T. Jordan, said the adjutant of the Home Guard had informed him that the Guard was about 50 uniforms short. It was understood that the material was available. He suggested the council should find the money itself and he thought the ratepayers would wish to show their appreciation to that extent of the sacrifice and service of these men. On the motion of Councillor G. D. Wilson, seconded by Councillor R. Russell, that course was agreed to. The council had earlier expressed its thanks to the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, who had advised that the Government would reimburse the council for the cost of 300 uniforms already supplied to the Home Guard. The council also expressed its appreciation of the active co-operation of the Government in the matter.
