TRANSPORT LICENSING
SITTING LN MASTERTON WAIRARAPA CASES. EKETAHUNA APPLICATION OPPOSED. A sitting of the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr P. Skoglund) was held in Masterton yesterday afternoon. An application for an additional vehicle authority on the same terms as one held by Messrs Smith and Donovan. was made by Mr A. G. Hanson. Eketahuna, for whom Mr Page appeared. The application was opposed by Messrs Duncan. Ryan and Son and Capes, three Eketahuna carriers, for whom Mr T. Jordan appeared. It was stated that Mr Hanson had been operating one truck for some time and had recently acquired a further truck from Messrs Smith and Donovan and the area licence that went with it. subject to the approval of the Authority. Mr Jordan, on behalf of the objectors, said the vehicle was domiciled in Eketahuna and it was held that there were sufficient lorries already in Eketahuna. He contended that applicant had entered into uneconomic competition with other carriers in Eketahuna. Mr Page pointed out that applicant was not a new competitor, as he had been operating in the district for some years. Mr Skoglund granted a transfer, restricting the operations of this particular truck in the Eketahuna County to logs, stock and metal, there being no restriction in respect to the other areas covered by the license. R. Vennell, Te Wharau, was granted a goods service licence between Te Wharau and Kummerstein, with the right to carry parcels and passengers, subject to the inspector approving the vehicle used. Messrs Tait And McKenzie,- Featherston, were granted an amendment to a goods service licence to include Master (on County, provided the service was restricted to carrying live stock to and from Masterton County. Transfers of licences were granted from G. T. Smith to Messrs Smith and Donovan Services Ltd., and from Mauriceville Co-op. Dairy Co. to Messis Milner and Son, Mauriceville. H. C.
