OF CONTROL OVER LIQUOR TRADE TAKEN IN AUSTRALIA. PRODUCTION AND SALE TO BE REDUCED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.50 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. Powers to reduce the consumption of alcoholic beverages in Australia and to stamp out abuses of the liquor laws are taken in National Security Regulations which have been gazetted. The main provisions are:— (1) The production and sale of beer and spirits is to be reduced by a third. (2) The State Premises have been given virtual control of the liquor industry in their States. (3) The police have- been given powers to enter by force, if necessary, premises where it is believed liquor is being sold illegally. They also have the right to search persons on those premises. The ban on liquor advertisements applies to newspapers, periodicals and to signs and display advertising on vehicles, hoardings and buildings. HOURS RESTRICTED IN PERTH & FREMANTLE. (Received This Day, 12.50 p.m.) PERTH. This Day. From today 6 o’clock closing of all hotels, wine saloons and clubs comes into force in Perth and Fremantle. Restricted hours have been introduced by the Premier, Mr J. C. Willcock, in an attempt to control increasing drunkenness. The hotels formerly closed at 9 p.m.
