BETTER WEATHER
MORE ACTIVE PATROLLING IN LIBYA AIR AND LAND FIGHTING IN FORWARD AREAS. SOME SIGNS OF ENEMY REINFORCEMENT. LONDON, March 16. With better weather in Libya, patrols on both sides are busy in the forward area. Our planes were several times able to intercept the attackers. In fighting between our columns and light enemy forces our troops destroyed at least one enemy tank and took prisoners. It is suggested that the Germans in Libya have received reinforcements to the ground troops and additions to the air force. Increased ground and air patrolling is not necessarily a preliminary to operations on a large scale. Our aircraft continue to harass the enemy's lines of communications. At least five enemy planes were destroyed on the ground when the aerodrome at Martuba was attacked. In the course of several air fights a Messerschmitt 109 was shot down and others were seriously damaged. Bombers raided objectives in Rhodes and Crete.
