SALE OF GIFT COUPONS. r Satisfactory progress with the National Savings Campaign in Masterton and district was reported to lastnight’s meeting of the local National Savings Committee. The chairman, Mr T. Jordan, presided. At the close of the twenty-second week of the quota campaign, it was stated, the total amount received at the Masterton Post Office for deposit to National Savings investment accounts and for the sale of National Savings bonds, was £26,511. Of this amount £13,667 was received from investment accounts and £12,752 from the sale of bonds. During the same period 985 new accounts had been opened and 20 new group accounts set up. The total number of accounts opened at the local Post Office now stood at 2901 and included 775 group accounts with a membership of 1158. The weekly quota scheme was being well received in the Masterton district and the flag had been raised on 16 successive occa-

sions. Receipts from the sale of National Savings gift coupons for the month ending December 31, 1941, were £lO4 10s. Of that amount coupons for £45 were sold by lady helpers from a stall in the Post Office vestibule. Subsequent sale of gift coupons had shown a marked falling off, accounted for principally by the fact that the required lady helpers were not available. The Postmaster would be pleased to hear from persons willing to volunteer for this task for a few hours a day. , J The committee expressed its appreciation of the loyal support accorded by the employees of the Waingawa Freezing Works. A total of 230 new accounts had been .opened by these employees to date. _____
