The death is announced of the Duke of Atholl, a London cablegram states. The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Ncwall, and Lady Ncwall spent the weekend at Paihia, Waitangi, on the shores of the Bay of Islands. Yesterday Sir Cyril visited Bay of Islands centres and Lady Ncwall assisted the Paihia branch of the Red Cross Society in war work. The Hon J. G. Barclay, Minister of Marketing, returned to Wellington yesterday from Auckland. The Hon W. E. Parry. Minister of Internal Affairs, returned to Wellington yesterday from Auckland. The Hon A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Health, returned to Wellington today from the South Island. The Hon H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Public Works, will return to Wellington from the South Island today. The friends of Mr John Collie, East Taratahi, will regret to hear that he has been a patient in the Masterton Public Hospital for the past month. News has been received by Mr and Mrs E. S. Fuller, Greytown, that their younger son, Fred, has died of wounds in Libya. Aged 32, he was born in Greytown and educated at the school there. He took up football with enthusiasm at school, and later represented Wairarapa in the Ranfurly Shield matches. On taking up a position in the Wellington Post Office, he played for the Eastbourne and Wellington football clubs. He also represented Wellington and the North Island. He was a solid fullback and fine goal-kicker.

The funeral of the late Mr D. F. Thurston took place this morning, there being a large attendance of mourners, including many bowlers. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church by the Rev. Father N. Moore, who also conducted the service at the graveside. Many beautiful wreaths were received, including those from the following: Proprietors of "Wairarapa Times-Age,” staff of “Wairarapa. Times-Age,” the Masterton Printing Co., and the Masterton Bowling Club. The pall-bearers were Messrs H. M. Morton, J. J. Hunter and H. Bannister (representing the Masterton Bowling Club) and Messrs E. J. Brown, A. M. Grimes and L. King (representing the “Wairarapa Times-Age.”)
