OBITUARY

MR D. F. THURSTON. The many friends of Mr Daniel Fisher Thurston will regret to hear of his death, which occurred at his residence, 51 Cole Street, Masterton, yesterday morning. The late Mr Thurston, who had suffered a somewhat protracted illness, was a well-known and highly respected resident of Masterton for many years. Born at Wanganui in 1877. he was the son of the late Mr and Mrs Daniel Thurston, of Marton. All his life he had been engaged in newspaper work. He served, on the staff of the “Rangitikei Advocate,” Marton, and the “Manawatu Standard” and “Manawatu Daily Times,” Palmerston North. Coming tc Masterton 28 years ago, he joined the staff of the “Wairarapa Age,” remaining there until the amalgamation of the “Age” and the “Daily Times” four years ago. He was foreman of the “Age” and took up a similar position at the “Times-Age.” He retired, owing to ill-health, some months ago. Mr Thurston, who was keenly interested in all forms of sport, was an enthusiastic bowler. He was a member of the Masterton Bowling Club, of which he was a past president. He was also a member of the Masterton Savage Club.

A widow, one son, Mr James F Thurston (Hawera) and three daughters, Mesdames R. J. Archer (Greymouth), and I. A. Hart (Masterton), whose husband, Major Hart, is serving overseas with the New Zealand forces, and Miss Madge Thurston (Masterton) are left to mourn their loss. There arc also four grand-daughters. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to the bereaved relative; in their great loss. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving St. Patrick's Church, fol lowing Mass at 9 a.m., for the Masterton Cemetery.
