GOLF
RIVERSIDE CLUB OPENS SEASON GATHERING ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON. SOCIAL IN THE EVENING. The Riverside Golf Club officially opened its season on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of members and friends. The president, Mr A. Carstens, extended a welcome to those present and expressed the hope that members would have an enjoyable season. He thanked members who had carried out work for the club during the off-season and also Messrs R. H. Simpson, H. Thomas and F. Pickering fcr donations to the culb. Mrs J. Clarke, ladies’ captain, drove the first ball and declared the links open. A mixed foursome was played, the contest resulting in a tie between Mi’ and Mrs Clarkson and Miss Joan Dixon and Mr R. Callender. A putting competition resulted: Ladies, Mrs F. Brown; men, Mr L. B. Cross. Afternoon tea was supplied by the ladies. They were heartily thanked for their services. A social and dance was held by the Riverside Golf Club at the Savage Club Rooms on Saturday night to mark the opening of the season. The hall was cleared for dancing, during which an enjoyable supper was supplied by the lady members of the club. Mr J. Connell acted as M.C. The music was provided by Mrs Rogers and Mr A. Parsons.
