AIRCRAFT LOSSES
BALANCE MUCH AGAINST ENEMY ON THE EASTERN FRONT. MORE SUCCESSES GAINED BY SOVIET TROOPS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) RUGBY, March 15. A brief Soviet night communique states: “No important changes occurred on the front yesterday. On Friday, 23 German aircraft were destroyed for the loss of eleven Soviet planes-.” Details of successes of the Red Air Force on Friday against German equipment and military supplies were given in a supplementary communique. These successes include the routing and partial annihilation of 'one infantry battalion, the destruction of gun batteries, two tanks, two armoured cars, 38 guns, 90 lorries, 85 ammunition carts and an oil tank. In one sector on the central front the enemy launched three counter-attacks in 24 hours. All were repulsed and the enemy retreated, leaving three hundred. dead on the battlefield. On another sector of the central front Soviet Guard units inflicted heavy losses on the enemy in men and material and took some prisoners.
