STOCK MARKET
PRICES AT ADDINGTON SOUND SALE. FAT SHEEP PRICES EASIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 11. An exceptionally heavy entry of store sheep was a feature of the Addington market today, the total of lambs and ewes being about 21,000. The sale was sound throughout, firming if anything as it progressed. Fat cattle firmed slightly, but last week's I levels were barely maintained in sales of both fat sheep and fat lambs. Store ewes: The yarding was the biggest of the year so far, totalling I 1400, and there was keen demand throughout the sale. Fat sheep: The entry was 3750, including many good butchers’ ewes, for which values were slightly below a week ago. There was a slackening also for wethers early in the sale. Fat lambs: The entry was again small, at 1500, but quality generally was good, though fewer choice pens were forward. Demand for butchers’ lambs was keen, but freezing sorts were fractionally easier. Fat cattle: The best quality beef ranged from 40s to 43s 6d per 1001 b. Fat pigs: The porker entry was bigger than last week’s and- competition was generally good till the last two races, when values fell 3s to 4d. Choppers were again in heavy supply and values a shade easier. PAHIATUA CATTLE FAIR SATISFACTORY REALISATIONS. The Associated Auctioneers report as follows on the Pahiatua Cattle Fair: —A capacity yarding of approximately 1900 head of all classes of station cattle was offered to a large attendance of local and outside buyers. The majority of the offering went to the Manawatu and Wairarapa districts. The season experienced has been very beneficial to the high country cattle, this being reflected in the good order of the offering. The bullocks yarded comprised some choice well grown cattle, and the quality offering was appreciated. Realisations were very satisfactory, the top price pen making £ll Bs. Steers made above vendors’ expectations in most cases, while all other sections sold well, a total clearance being effected. Fat cattle were in demand, and we report a total clearance at auction.
