GLARELESS GLASS
AN AMERICAN DISCOVERY. If you have noticed the glass glare which obstructs clear views of framed pictures, electric meters, and dial readings on aeroplane and automobile dashboards then you can better appreciate the work of Dr. F. H. Nicoll of the Radio Corporation of America whose recent discovery has largely eliminated such effects. Dr. Nicholl’s process, it is reported, is based oh the exposure, of the glass surface to hydrofluoric acid vapor. The vapor etches away a small layer of the surface, leaving a thin transparent film of calcium fluoride. This film is purple, indicating that yellow and green to which the human eye is quite sensitive, are not being reflected. Exhaustive tests show that the film withstands hard rubbing, that it can be washed with water, alcohol and’ 'a number of other solutions, and can be subjected to high temperatures Without damage.—“ Christian Science Monitor.”
