ACCIDENTAL DROWNING
CHILD LOSES LIFE IN PARK LAKE. EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. A verdict of accidental drowning was returned by the District Coroner, Mr E. G. Eton, this morning at an inquest concerning the death of Carol Kilminster, the two-old-child of Mi’ and Mrs R. J. Kilminster, of Jean Street, Master ton. The child's body was found in the Park Lake at 12.50 p.m. yesterday. Artificial respiration was tried for some time, but proved unsuccessful. Evidence was given by the father of the child, Richard John Kilminster, who said that it was an unfailing rule to have both the front and back gates securely closed, but on this occasion the back gate, giving access to the cemetery, had not been latched and the child appeared to have left home by this gate. Leslie Edward Gaskin testified to having seen the child in the cemetery thirty minutes before the body was found in the lake. Charles Robertson Stevens, who assisted in the search, first saw the body in the lake. Frank Henry Knowles and Roy George Sayer recovered the body. Dr. Archer Hosking, who called in. said the child had been in th.e water for some minutes at least.
