HEROIC MALTA

TRIBUTES PAID IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 10. In a discussion in the House of Commons on the supplementary estimate for colonial and Middle East services, Mr A. Creech Jones (Labour) said it would be unfortunate if the grant of £500,000 for local expenses in Malta were approved without the House expressing its very great sense of appreciation and paying tribute to the Maltese and the military forces there for the splendid and gallant stand they had made during the two years when they had to endure about 2000 air raids, sometimes as many as 17 in 24 hours. Captain Macmillan, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, said the Government appreciated the tributes of members to the magnificent defence put up by the people of Malta. The defence of Malta under the inspiring leadership of Sir William Dobbie, had been a magnificent achievement.
