GOOD WORK

IN NORTHERN & SOUTHERN WATERS ACTIVITIES OF THE RUSSIAN FLEET. RAIDS ON ENEMY PORTS & BASES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MOSCOW. March 9. The Russian Navy is active in Crimean waters and near Leningrad, says the newspaper, “Red Fleet.” Volunteer reconnaissance marines are systematically raiding and destroying enemy communications. Along the coast of the Sea of Azov a Russian warship recently entered an enemy-occupied port and started several fires by shelling. Another warship shelled a German airfield in the Crimea from where Sebastapol was bombed. The warship destroyed several planes on the ground and set fire to hangars and escaped without damage after being bombed for five hours. Marines are carrying out important operations at Sebastapol and drove the Germans out of a village. The fleet air arm has maintained Russian air superiority over Sebastopol. Baltic fleet marines have participated in land fighting in the Leningrad region from the beginning of operations. Kronstadt’s batteries recently carried out a duel with German shore batteries and also fired on an enemy warship which approached the fortress.
