TRIAL BLACKOUT TO BE HELD IN FORTNIGHT. FIVE SIRENS BEING PURCHASED. Various matters connected with E.P.S. arrangements were discussed last night by the E.P.S. executive, at a meeting held in Masterton, when the reports of the controllers were presented. Following on a meeting of Wairarapa E.P.S. representatives with Brigadier Green, of the Salvation Army, Controller of accommodation and evacuation, Wellington E.P.S., it was agreed that Mr Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, should be asked to visit Masterton and discuss evacuation arrangements. It was stated that ambulance stretchers would be stored at the two casualty clearing stations only. The meeting agreed to authorise the purchase of four portable and one fixed siren. Recommendations in respect to preparations for the evacuation of school children in the case of an emergency were approved. Mr F. J. Gair was appointed to the executive in place of Mr G. G. Hancox, as the secondary schools’ representative. The chief warden reported on progress with lighting restrictions. Street lighting had now been reduced. It was agreed to hold a trial blackout in about a fortnight. Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith was appointed first deputy and Mr J. C. D. Mackley second deputy controller of the E.P.S.
