HOME GUARD
MASTERTON BATTALION ROUTINE ORDERS. CLASSES, PARADES AND OTPIER ACTIVITIES. Routine orders for the Masterton Battalion of the Home Guard, issued by Major A. L. Hibbs, are:— CLASSES—N.C.O. class, Tuesday, March 15, at 7.0 p.m., at Municipal Hall. PARADES. —Week-end parades: C Company (published yesterday), A Company as arranged. Headquarters (including Petrol Guards), A and C Companies: Parade at respective Drill Flails on Thursday, March 12, at 7.0 p.m. Other centres will adhere to individual arrangements. Lieut.-Col. Irving will give a talk to Home Guardsmen in the Municipal Hall, Masterton, on Thursday, March 12, at 7.30 p.m. Headquarters, A and C Company commanders are instructed to arrange their respective programmes so that all ranks may attend. An invitation is also extended to Home Guardsmen of country companies to attend. Advice has been received to the effect that the well-known military writer, Tom Winteringham, will broadcast to New Zealand a talk on the activities of the Home Guard in England on Monday next, at 8.15 p.m. Home Guardsmen are advised to hear the talk. Old motor car chassis are of use in the construction of road blocks. Guardsmen and the public are invited to advise of any available. PROMOTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS—D Coy.: Mt. Bruce Pin. L/Cpl. J. Lahore to be Cpl. Guardsman C. Welch to be L/Cpl. Guardsman T. Wyeth to be L/Cpl. F Coy.: Cpl. W. E. Kjestrup to be Sgt.; Guardsman R. A. Payne to be L/Cpl. TRANSFERS—F Coy.: Waonuioru Pin., Guardsman W. Rang!' transferred to B Coy. R. Williams from Homewood Pin. to Bideford Pin. MARCHED IN: 10 recruits. MARCHED OUT: A. Coy., H. A. Bush to E.P.S. F Coy.: J. Burnett to E.P.S. UNIFORMS ISSUED MASTERTON TOWN COMPANIES. Khaki drill uniforms have now been issued to practically all members of the town companies of the Masterton Home Guard. This has been made possible by the grant made for that purpose by the Masterton Borough Council. The council’s action is much appreciated by the men. Uniforms for the Mauriceville and Tinui companies are now being made to the order of the Mauriceville and Castlepoint County Councils and arc expected to be on hand any day. It is understood that the Masterton and Wairarapa South County councils are considering proposals to take action on the same lines.
