PETROL SUPPLIES
LICENCES FOR FARMERS AND OTHERS NOW ON THREE-MONTHLY BASIS. STATEMENT OF POSITION. To overcome complaints that have been made, consequent upon the placing of all licenses on a monthly basis, the Oil Fuel Controller has agreed to farmers and other licensees whose requirements are subject to seasonal fluctuations drawing their supplies on a threemonthly basis instead of monthly, as at present. The readjustment of licences on a quartrely basis is to be granted in all cases where it can satisfactorily be established that the need for so amending licences is necessary. The privilege is being extended solely to meet seasonal requirements and to overcome difficulties of transport for farmers and other persons living far distant from the source of their oil fuel supplies, and a close watch wil be kept on any abuse of the privilege. For the same reasons it has been decided to permit owners of vehicles residing in remote localities to obtain motor spirits for consumption in their licensed motor vehicles in containeis, especially where increased consumption would result if it were necessary for the vehicle owners to make special trips to refill the tanks of vehicles which are not frequently driven to town. The Controller has given an undertaking that motor spirits will be made available during any period of national emergency for pumping water, operating millting machine plants, and for other similar essential purposes. In districts where there are E.P.S. organisations the farmers will obtain theii emergency supplies from that organisation. In areas in which the E.P.S. organisation is not functioning application for the emergency supplies are to be made to the nearest sub-district Oil Fuel Controller.
