METHODIST CHURCH
LADIES’ GUILD. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Methodist Ladies’ Social Guild was held in the schoolroom when Mrs H. S. Kings presided over a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Lindsay, Shoosmith. White and Misses Allan and Jackson. An invitation was extended to the ladies to attend the Missionary Auxiliary gathering in March when the Rev. Mr Goldie, of the Solomon Islands, will deliver an address. The question of providing helpers for the Y.M.C.A. bakehouse was brought before the meeting. Members able to help were asked to notify the secretary. The happy thought for the month was provided by Mrs Prior. During the afternoon two readings were given by Mrs Keltie, and letters were read describing the exciting escape in the Mission launch of the Rev. Headley and Dr. A. Rutter together’ with seven other friends from the Solomon Islands to Australia after Japan had attacked the islands. Mesdames Judd and Prior were appointed to represent the Guild on the Red Cross Committee. It was stated that sewing during the meetings for the Red Cross Society had proved a great success. Votes of thanks were accorded to Mrs Keltie and to Mesdames Sleeman and Trevorrpw, who had acted as tea hostesses. During the afternoon Mrs Judd explained to the ladies how to make mittens out of used socks, the mittens being urgently required for the soldiers.
