JAPANESE ONSLAUGHT ON AUSTRALIA MAJOR-GENERAL BENNETT’S WARNING. MENACE MUST BE SMASHED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, March 6. Major-General Bennett, who commanded the A.I.F. in Malaya and who, it ,was announced in Canberra, will shortly be appointed to a major military post in Australia, stated in Sydney today: “At the risk of being called a scaremonger, I say that the Japanese attack on Australia is coming very quickly.” It was plain today that all Australians must tackle the problem they were confronted with, he added. “We must move quickly. We must smash the menace. I have no doubt whatever that we will be able to destroy any Japanese force that attempts to land.”
