NATIONAL PLEBISCITE
CONSCRIPTION FOR OVERSEAS SERVICE. ISSUE IN CANADA. OTTAWA, February 24. The Leader of the Conservative Party, the Hon. R. B. Hanson, announced in the House of Commons that he intends to advise voters to vote “Yes” in the coming national plebiscite on whether the Government should be released from its pledge not to impose conscription for overseas service without consulting the people. The Plebiscite Bill, as introduced in Parliament, provides that persons in the Armed Service may vote even if under 21 years of age; but that, internees, persons who get exemption or postponement of military service as conscientious objectors, and certain persons of enemy origin, may not vote. Conscientious objectors who do vote are barred from claiming future emotion or postponement. Voting returns will be published for each electoral district with summaries for each province, as well as totals for the Dominion.
