Band at Opaki.

A bright and much-appreciated musical programme was played at Opaki yesterday afternoon by the Masterton Municipal Band. There was a fairly large attendance of the public. Twentyeight bandsmen were present. The band was thanked for its programme, which was greatly enjoyed. Masterton West School Dance. The Masterton West Home and School Association held a very successful dance on Saturday night, when a most enjoyable time was spent by the dancers to music supplied by Mr A. Barnes’s orchestra. Supper was provided by a ladies’ committee and greatly appreciated. Odd Fellows’ Dance. The Masonic Hall was crowded on Saturday night, when a dance was held by the Masterton Odd Fellows’ Lodge. Barnes’s Orchestra played the music for the dancing, and the M.C. was Bro. B. Seddon. Extras were played by Miss Hopkins. The supper arrangements were in charge of Sisters Prout, Rickards and Harris. Girl Injured. A girl of 12 years of age, Robinette Maire Butler, of 4 Elizabeth Street, was knocked down by a lorry this morning while cycling, at the corner of Roberts Road and Totara Street. The child received cuts on her forehead and left knee, and suffered from shock. She was taken to her home. The accident occurred between 8.30 and 9 o’clock. Men of the Services Entertained. A free tea for the men of the services was provided in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last night by the ladies of the P. and T. and Cody’s marching teams. ' There was a large attendance, and after introductory remarks had been voiced by the Y.M.C.A. secretary, Mr Gaze, and Mr Geo. Daubney, the president of the Wairarapa Interhouse Association, Mr L. B. Maunsell, welcomed the men. Mr J. Barnes, with his assistant ,played the piano and saxophone during tea. Devotional silence was also observed. After tea, Mrs Miller Hope presided at the piano, and accompanied trios sweetly sung by the Misses Berris Perrin, Heather Douglas and Brenda James, and solos by Miss D. O’Donnell. Private Armour thanked all present for the pleasant gathering, and the Y.M.C.A. and District Patriotic Committee for all that was being done for the men.
