The Hon. H. G. R. Mason, AttorneyGeneral, returned to Wellington yesterday from the South Island. Flight Lieutenant D. Neville Milligan, a son of Mr D. Milligan, Wellington, has been appointed to special duties connected with the training of young pilots in the Middle East. The Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Health, left Wellington on Saturday to make a rapid tour of some of the hospitals of the South Island. He expects to return to Wellington on Thursday. The engagement is announced of Nola Winifred, younger daughter of Mrs W. Wilson, 18 Wrigley Street. Masterton, to Leading Aircraftman Henry Ashby, eldest son of Mr and Mrs C. Blinkhorne, Ohakune. The engagement is announced of Alison Lillian, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs C. J. Bambry, Clifton Avenue, Carterton, to Sergeant John McGowan, elder son of Mr and Mrs H. G. Alexander, Pownall Street, Masterton. As a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mr James Wilder, a former member of the club, the flag was flown at half mast at the Masterton Park Bowling Club’s green on Saturday and play was suspended in order that members could attend the funeral. The funeral of the late Mr J. N. Wilder took place on Saturday afternoon, the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich officiating at the chapel and at the cemetery. There was a representative attendance of mourners, including members of the Park Bowling Club, who stopped their games to attend the funeral. Many beautiful wreaths were in evidence. The pall-bearers were Messrs H. E. Gardner, G. Selby. G. Mclsaacs, R. Evans, W. Rowe and E. J. Ward. Mr William D. A. Kircher, who died suddenly in Wellington on Friday, was an old resident of the city. He was well know in the soft goods trade, and worked for some years for the firm of Turnbull and Smith, and later for Ross and Glendining and Sargood, Son and Ewen. He afterwards started in business in Wellington on his own account as an indent agent, and retired in 1934. In his younger days he was a wellknown athlete, being a foundation member of the Poneke football and cricket clubs. He was such a good allround cricketer that he played for the Wellington repersentatives, representing the province against the Australian team in 1886, and against Shaw and Lillywhite’s English team in 1888.
