“ALADDIN”
OPERA HOUSE TONIGHT. Tonight at the Opera House, beginning at 8 o’clock, on Monday afternoon commencing at 2 o’clock, and on Monday evening, J. C. Williamson Theatres Ltd., will present their gorgeous pantomime “Aladdin,” which attracted record audiences in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The important role of Abanazar will be portrayed by the Great Levante, which he impersonated with success in the last London production of “Aladdin.” The Great Levante will present several of his cleverest magic features, which have never previously been seen in New Zealand. Mr Ed. Edwards, who takes the part of the Widow Twankey, is a foremost English comedian. Miss Doris Whimp has a pleasing personality and a good singing voice which is heard in several of the latest song hits. Lawrie Long, a young Chinese pantomimist, always creates a furore of enthusiasm by his brilliant acrobatic tap dancing. The company includes a bevy of lovely ballerinas in several picturesque dances. The artistry of the twenty “tiny tots” is a feature of the pantomime, and the Cleveland entertaining Marionette and Shadowgraph acts are highly appreciated by playgoers. One of the highlights of the production is the “Floating Princess,” which depicts the Princess (Ursula Irving) in a darkened theatre floating over the audience sitting in the stalls. The box plans are at the shop of Messrs Steele and Bull.
