ATTACK ON JAVA
BEGUN BV JAPANESE NAW & AIRCRAFT EARLY LANDING ATTEMPT POSSIBLE. PROBABLE INVASION METHOD. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) BANDOENG, February 27. The attack on Java has begun, both the air and naval arms striking hard blows. The bombing of airfields in Java has reached an intensity which suggests that attempts at a landing will not be long delayed. Some quarters forecast an attempt at a landing within three days, and others believe that the Japanese will require three weeks to complete their preparations. The opinion is. held that the invasion may take the following forms; First, an attempt to land on the north shore of central Java, possibly at Semarang, which was bombed today; secondly, simultaneous landing in West Java by forces from south Sumatra, with the object of capturing Batavia, the Indies’ capital, and a landing in east Java by forces from Bali to attack the chief Indies naval base of Sourabaya.
