GREYTOWN
HOUSE ON FIRE A TIMELY DISCOVERY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Fire Brigade was called out shortly before midnight yesterday to the residence of Mrs’ W. Liddy, Main Street, It appears that during the day the chimney had caught fire and as a result of a fault an outbreak occurred in the match lining and old shingles. Just before retiring Mrs* Liddy noticed smoke issuing from the ceiling and the brigade was notified. With the aid of a bucket pump the fire was put before any serious damage was done. Mr Liddy is on the staff at the Trentham camp. PRECAUTIONS SCHEME LIST OF APPOINTMENTS.

The late Mrs Kate Pickard, who died at Dannevirke recently, had been for over twenty-five years associated with welfare and social work in Dannevirke. As Welfare Officer she did valuable work, and was for several years an indefatigable member of the Mayor’s Relief Committee., In recognition of her splendid work in the community Mrs Pickard was awarded the Coronation Medal, and in July last was presented by the citizens with an easy chair in recognition of her unselfish work for others. Last Christmas night a memorial cot to commemorate the name of Mrs Pickard was presented to the Dannevirke hospital in the presence of Mrs Pickard and her family. The presentation was the outcome of activities of a committee of citizens and also the reluctance of Mrs Pickard to accept any public gift for the work she had done as a labour of love. Mr R. A. Pickard, of Greytown, is a son of the late Mrs Pickard. TOWN HALL TOMORROW’S PROGRAMME. There will be shown at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. tomorrow a thrilling drama, “Freedom Radio,” starring Clive Brook and Diana Wynyard. (Recommended by the Censor for Adults).
