Maori Child Injured.

Rua Karaitiana, 10 years of age, of Te Ore Ore, was admitted to the Masterton Hospital last evening, suffering from a severed artery in her wrist. The injury was the result of her hand breaking a glass pane in a door. Her condition this morning was reported to be satisfactory. First Aid Lecture. The first of a series of lectures on first aid is to be given in the Social Hall this evening by Dr. Archer Hosking. The address will be to members of the medical division of the E.P.S., the law and order section and wardens. A full attendance is requested. The' Home Guard unit which usually parades in the hall has made arrangements to parade elsewhere. Emergency Reserve Corps Enrolments. Now that the last day for compulsory enrolment in the Emergency Reserve Corps has passed, and a selection made to particular divisions of the E.P.S., arranged as between the different controllers, notifications of acknowledgment of enrolment are now being prepared, and will be despatched in Masterton within the next few days. Those who have been allotted to various divisions of the E.P.S. will be advised accordingly, and those who have not yet been selected for duty and have been placed in the reserve will be notified to that effect. Free Libraries. There are now 44 free libraries in New Zealand compared with 29 a year ago, according to the annual report of the New Zealand Library Association. All of the 15 public libraries which adopted free library service during the year are participating in the country library service. The new school library service which is to be administered by the country library service is described in the report as a landmark in the history of the provision of library service to children in New Zealand. Thousands of children's books are being prepared for circulation, and within a few months books will reach the first schools to benefit from the scheme.
