TENNIS CLUB McDougall cup competition. (“Times-Age” Special.) Playing in the challenge round for the McDougall tennis cup, Thomas and Lovegrove were beaten by Herangi and Tito, who in turn were defeated by Guthrie and Riwai. The former were considered to be the strongest pair in the competition, but the brilliant net play of Riwai and the accurate placing by his partner were the main factors in the defeat of their opponents. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE monthly meeting. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held on Thursday afternoon, Mrs Spicer presiding over a fail’ attendance of members. During the afternoon several competitions were held, the winners being Mesdames Seward, Spicer and Mrs O’Brien. Second prizes were won by Mesdames Lovegrove and Atkinson. Wool was distributed to members for knitting comforts for seamen. Owing to petrol restrictions it was impossible for members from other branches to attend and give demonstrations. The secretary reported that a substantial profit had been made from the recent dance. | At its next meeting the election of! officers for the ensuing year will be held. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames O’Brien and Thomas. Decrease in Milk Supply. The supply of milk to the local factory has dropped considerably during the past week, but the rain, no doubt, will help to keep up the supply. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Waaka Enoka and family, who have been residents of this district for a lengthy period, will shortly leave to take up their residence in Pukio. Mr and Mrs Lamb, Hastings, are visiting friends here. Mesdames . Hawkins and Te Maari and Messrs Taurau and Enoka have returned after having attended a Mormon conference at Porirua. Mr Douglas Kitney, a popular resident of this district for the past eight years, will on Wednesday enter Trentham Camp for the duration of the war. He was tendered a complimentary social gathering by his many friends and was made a presentation. Mi’ and Mrs N. Murphy have returned from Wanganui. Private Noel Hume. Trentham, spent the weekend with relatives here. Misses C. and M. Enoka have gone to Dannevirke where they will attend the local High School.
