ELECTRIC POWER
WAIRARAPA BOARD MEETING AT CARTERTON. PROTECTED PLACES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following business was transacted at the meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board at Carterton yesterday afternoon after the “Times-Age” went to press: — The chairman cordially vzelcomed Mr Shepherd, who had been elected the Featherston Borough Council’s representative in place of Mr M. B. Tait. Mr Pearce said that the board was very fortunate in having the services of so able a representative as Mr Shepherd. Mr Shepherd suitably replied. It was decided that the payment of an allowance be made to Mr W. G. Barnett, who is on territorial service. A letter was received from the Electricity Controller and Superintendent of Police, dealing with the matter of declaring the Kourarau power stations as protected places. It was deciaed that notices be erected at these places prohibiting persons from trespassing and to appoint a watchman and six men to assist in this connection. It was stated that the whole of the board’s trucks and motor vehicles had been impressed for the use of the E.P.S. in the event of emergency. It was left with the secretary-mana-ger to arrange with the oil fuel controller for the amount of petrol . required by members to attend meetings once a month. The manager informed the board that members of the staff had forwarded parcels to men on active service overseas and letters of appreciation had been received. The Power Board engineer was appointed watchman at Kourarau.
