POTATO DIGGING

A BAD HABIT. Probably the greatest temptation now is to go merrily ahead with the lifting of potatoes while the skins will still scrape off easily. This is a habit which has been practised so systematically that it is done as a matter of course. Furthermore, it is the usual instruction to clear the ground in time to plant out the crops of winter greens. Present conditions are so far from normal that there is ample justification for insisting that the present consumption of potatoes should be cut down to a minimum in order that as many as possible of even the early kinds should be reserved for winter use.
