Labourer Adjudged Bankrupt. Arthur Owen Byrne, labourer, of Carterton, has been adjudged a bankrupt. A meeting of his creditors will be held at Masterton on Friday morning. Timaru Wool Cheque. A total of 13,403 bales was sold at the third wool appraisal of the season in Timaru. The cheque totalled £229,403 6s 9d. The average price a bale was £l7 2s 3d, and the average price per lb. 12.63 pence. Child Suffers Burns. Judith Ann White, nearly 2 years of age, of 37 High Street, Masterton, was admitted to the Masterton Hospital last night, suffering from burns on the thigh. She is reported to have fallen on an electric iron. Hei’ condition this morning is reported to be satisfactory. Municipal Library. Subscribers of the Masterton Municipal Library at the end of January totalled 684, as compared with 679 at the beginning of the month. Sixty-five new books .were added during the month. Juvenile subscribers at the end of January totalled 190. Freezing Workers’ Response. Over 300 employees of the Waingawa Freezing Works have opened national savings accounts, reported the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council. “That speaks volumes for the men,” said Mr Jordan, who added that the list was not yet completed.
