ON THE LIBYAN FRONT ROMMEL MASSING STRENGTH AT MEKILI. BRITISH AIRCRAFT ACTIVE. >. LONDON, February 17. In Libya, General Rommel has withdrawn his reconnoitring detachments which have been manoeuvring in front of our lines at Gazala during the last few days. The enemy is in considerable strength at Mekili. Our aircraft have been active along the front from west of Gazala to 50 miles south. Malta had an eleven hours alert on Monday. Bombs caused civilian casualties and damage was heavier than usual.
