DAY OF PRAYER
WORLD WIDE OBSERVANCE. In 1887 the women of America decided to have an annual day of prayer £or home missions. The first Friday in Lent was selected. News of this spread to women of all lands, and in 1927 the observance of the day of prayei became world-wide. A small group in New Zealand met that year, and from that beginning the interest has spread, till now it is kept in nearly every town in the Dominion. Though originally the day of prayer was for mission work, it has in later years developed into prayer to meet the world’s need for unity, brotherhood, and acceptance! of Christ’s way of life. A freewill offering will be taken up at the local meeting at St. Matthew’s Hall at 2 p.m. on Friday and this will be forwarded to the International Council for helping imperilled missions.
