FATEFUL MEETINGS
AUSTRALIAN CABINET & WAR COUNCIL GRAVITY OF SITUATION RECOGNISED. TIME TO WORK & FIGHT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The policy of “no surrender,” in the most literal sense of the term, is likely to be put before the people of Australia by the Federal Government after fateful meetings of the Cabinet and War Council in Sydney today and tomorrow, says the “Herald.” The Minister of the Army, Mr Forde, said it is the considered view of the Commonwealth Government that the situation in the Pacific is capable of control. The Government is doing its utmost. There is no need and no time for dismay, although it would be foolish to try to conceal from the people the gravity of the situation. The existence of Australians depended on their working or fighting.
