FEATHERSTON

BOROUGH AFFAIRS MEETING OF COUNCIL. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Featherston Borough Council there were present: The Mayor (Mr J. W. Card), Councillors S. P. Batcheler, G. A. Farrier, W. J. Boston, C. R. Skipage, B. B. Donald, C. C. Kenward, H. W. Cundy and F. G. Hardie. An apology for absence was received from Councillor R. R. P. Hardy. The Masterton County Council forwarded a cheque for £4l' Ils Id, being the Borough Council’s share of heavy traffic fees to November 30, 1941. The Secretary of the New Zealand Institute of Town Clerks advised that the annual conference had been cancelled. The Department of Health wrote stating that the Anzac Hall would not be further required as a hospital for sick soldiers from the Trentham Camp. It was resolved that the Building Committee attend to the blackout required for the public buildings. Mr N. C. C. Shepherd thanked the council for having elected him as the council representative on the Power Board, and stated that he would do his best to live up to the splendid record of the previous representatives, the late Mr W. Benton and Mr M. B. Tait. United Service of Prayer. A citizens’ wartime united service of prayer is to be held in the Town Hall on Sunday evening and an invitation is extended to all citizens to attend. The combined choirs will sing popular hymns. Personal Items. Miss Hazel Burgh is spending a few days holiday at Waverley, and is the guest of Mrs Hyland. Miss Molly Clapshaw, Wellington, is spending a holiday in Featherston. Rate Collection. The sum of £590 in rates was collected by the Town Clerk on the last day before the 10 per cent penalty came into operation. COSV THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. In addition to the 8 p.m. session a special showing of “Penny Serenade, ’ will be given at 5 p.m. today. The leading roles are taken by Irene Dunne and Cary Grant. (Recommended by the Censor for Adults).
