Farm Hand Injured.

A fractured leg was suffered by Charles Burr, 18, of Atea, Eketahuna, when he fell from his horse yesterday while riding on a sheep farm. He was conveyed to the Masterton Hospital by the Pahiatua ambulance.

Baby Swallows Safety Pin. A nine-months-old baby, John Woodgyer, of Hinakura, was admitted to the Masterton Hospital yesterday. The baby had swallowed a safety pin. Its condition this morning was reported to be satisfactory.

R.S.A. Membership Record. A record membership of 861 was reported at last night’s meeting of the Central Committee of the Wairarapa R.S.A. On account of petrol restrictions many delegates were unable to attend the meeting. Accounts totalling £ll4 were passed.

Law and Order Section of E.P.S. The law and order section of the E.P.S. held a meeting last night, which was attended by about 40 members. Senior Sergeant G. A. Doggett gave a general outline of the duties of special constables in an emergency and Mr Norman Lee surveyed the hospital organisation in the town and district. Dance at Masonic Hall.

The dance held by an army unit in the Masonic Hall last night attracted a particularly large attendance. Driver Roy Mignot was a capable M.C. and Pool’s Orchestra supplied the music. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz competitions were: Second Lieut. Cameron and Miss Dorothy Finlayson and Driver D. Lee and Miss I. Dale.

Army Reserve Transport. The following personnel of the Wairarapa Company of Lines of Communication will proceed to camp tomorrow for a short course of instruction:— Captain D. B. Curry, Masterton; Lieut. D. D. Ryan, Eketahuna; Lieut. J. R. Donovan, C.S.M. I. G. MacDonald, C.Q.M.S. F. M. Morton, Sgts. L. J. Kiddie, H. A. R. Dunderdale, R. J. Kilmister, R. Costello, and W. Harding, Masterton. Chemist Convicted. The trial of Raymond Francis Woodley Grigg, manufacturing chemist, aged 4G, was concluded before Mr Justice Callan and a jury in the Supreme Court, Auckland, yesterday. Accused was charged with having unlawfully used an instrument on a woman on or about November 4, 1941. The woman had died in Auckland Hospital on November 15. The jury returned a verdict of guilty and accused was remanded for sentence. Dominion’s Wheat Yield. The total yield of wheat for the season 1941-42 should be approximately 8,000,000 bushels, as against ascertained yield of 8,305,865 bushels for the 194041 season, states the Gazette. The estimated average yield of wheat for the Dominion is 34 bushels per acre, compared with 3,114.946 bushels last year, oats, 44 (43.41 last year); barley, 36 (33.3 last year). On the basis of the past five seasons the total yield of grain from oats this year should be approximately 2,515'0,000 bushels, comp ared with 3,114,946 bushels last year. The total yield from barley should be approximately 1,300,000 bushels, as against 1,066,408 bushels last year. 1
