Martial law has been declared in Papua and New Guinea. Mr Forde (Army Minister) said the attack by the enemy made it essential that the territories should be under military control. The Minister also gazetted regulations empowering him to declare martial law in Australia, if necessary. This is the first time the Government has declared martial law in Australian territory.
