DUTCH POSSESSIONS

AMERICAN GARRISON SENT. ISLANDS OFF VENEZUELA. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) WASHINGTON, February 11. The State Department announced that a United States army contingent had been sent to the islands of Curacao and Aruba, off the northern coast of Venezuela, at the request of the Netherlands Government, to assist the Dutch forces in the defence of the islands and the oil refineries on them. The United States forces will operate under the general supervision of the Governor of Curacao, and will be withdrawn upon the termination of the emergency. Venezuela indicated her wholehearted approval of the measure, and it is understood that she will cooperate in the defence of the islands.
