BRIEF SITTING OF HOOSE ADJOURNMENT TILL MARCH 19. SECRET DISCUSSION ON WAR EFFORT. j (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. After extending over three days, the discussion in secret on the memorandum dealing with the country’s war effort prepared by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, concluded in the House at 4.35 p.m. The House then adjourned till 7.30 p.m. Following the conclusion of the secret sitting in the afternoon the following official report was issued by the direction of the Speaker, Mr Barnard: — “The House met in secret session to discuss the Holland memorandum. The Leader of the Opposition opened the discussion and a debate followed in which 21 members took part. Mr Holland then replied and the debate was wound up by the Prime Minister.” Miscellaneous business was transacted by the House of Representatives last night, and after a sitting of an hour and a half an adjournment was taken to March 19, with the usual stipulation that members could be called together sooner if any unforeseen emergency made that necessary. During the brief sitting formal matters were dealt with, select committees were appointed, a measure authorising the appointment of members of the Legislature to diplomatic posts overseas was introduced and passed, and reference was made to the Holland memorandum dealing, with the war effort. The House rose at 9.3 p.m. The Legislative Council is to meet today to pass the Bill dealing with the appointment of overseas representatives of the Dominion.
