boy scours DISTRICT COMMITTEE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) District Commissioner, R. N. Barton, presided over a meeting of the Boy Scouts District Committee held at Carterton on Saturday night. Arrangements were made for “Scout Week,” which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 21 and 22. On February 21 the Scouts will be ready and willing to do some good deed for the citizens of their respective towns. On Sunday, February 22, a Scouts’ gathering will be held in the Park at Greytown. Should the weather prove unfavourable it will take place in the Greytown Den. The Carterton Scoutmaster, Mr E. F. Fairbrother, was presented with his warrant by the District Commissioner. The Commissioner said that he regretted that neither Featherston nor Martinborough had the services of a Scoutmaster. He complimented the Carterton Corps on its work and said that he was glad to hear that it was growing in strength. Supper was provided. BOWLING CLUB CHAMPION FOURS COMPETITION. The elimination competition in connection with the champion fours was played on Saturday afternoon in fine weather and a most enjoyable time was spent. Afternoon tea was presided ever by Misses Marjorie Stent and Margaret Forbes, to whom a hearty vote of thanks was accorded. The following are results of the games:— Aplin, Underhill, Barber, G. Hart (s) beat G. Steven, W. Steven, Simmonds, Sorensen (s), 38/16; Colson (sub.), Beaven, Hughan, Barr (s) beat A. Thompson, Irwin, DeLacey, Tucker (s), 24/13; Kilmister, W. Hart, Curtis, Harp (s) beat Smith, Adams (sub.), R. Thompson, Harrington (s), 22/12. The positions of the rinks are: G. Hart (2 lives), Sorensen, Barr, Harp (one life). Other games played resulted as follows: —Dudson, Hawker, Foster, Harris (s) beat Tomlin, Hill, McCarty, Riggs (s), 29/13; Rayner, Pankhurst, Callender, Whyte (s) beat Rayner, Clark, Bain, Martin (s), 29/14. Next Saturday a progressive pairs tourney will be played on the Carterton green. Play will commence at one o’clock sharp, and members are asked to be punctual. The proceeds will be devoted to repairing the club’s billiard table. Personal Items. Pte. H. Murrell, who was until recently an employee at the Waingawa Meat Works, was at the weekend the recipient of a presentation from the staff. Pte. Murrell thanked his fellow workmen for their gift and good wishes. Mr Joe Fitzgerald met with an accident on Saturday afternoon which necesitated his being taken to the Greytown Hospital for treatment. Concert for Soldiers. On Saturday evening a concert party entertained members of the Armed Forces at the King’s Theatre, when an excellent programme was greatly appreciated. The programme was as follows:—Duet, Misses Verna Irwin and Verna Sorensen; song and dance, Misses Mary Lawrence and Ava Sorensen; play song in character, ”0 Ma Ma,” by members of the W.D.F.U.; duet, Misses Verna and Ava Sorensen; song, Mrs L. Johnson; recitation. Miss Mary Lawrance; “Professor Gadgets,” Mr Rex Porter; tap dance, Mrs A. Bridge; community singing with Miss Irwin at the piano. Tennis Match. On Saturday members of the Armed Forces played a match against a team from the Carterton Club, the former winning by four games to two. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. The results were as follow, the Army players being mentioned first in each case: —Major Ramson and Major Welton Hogg beat Brown and Worsfold, 2/6, 6/4, 7/5; Sergt. Wesley and Corpl. Cranswick beat Mills and Taverner, 4/6, 6/5, 7/5; Lieuts. Parker and Burke lost to Roydhouse and Goodin, 6/0, 6/1; Parker and Burke lost to Brown and Roydhouse, 6/0, 6/0; Ramson and Welton Hogg beat Taverner and Goodin, 4/6. 6/2, 6/1; Wesley and CranswicV beat Worsfold and Mills, 2/6, 6/3, 6/2.
