PONGAROA EWE FAIR. ' GOOD COMPETITION. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd. (Inc. in Eng.) report as follows on their annual Pongaroa ewe fair, held on Saturday:— A big yarding of ewes, well in excess of advertised numbers, came forward and attracted a large and representative attendance, buyers being present from Dannevirke, Feilding, Palmerston North, Bush and Masterton, and all the local districts. The ewes came forward in particularly good condition, and competition thoughbut was good, although buyers had a definite idea of limits. Two-tooth ewes were in keen demand, and made from 26s to 295, 4-year-olds made up to'2os, while in the 5-year-old section top lines made from 16s 6d, 17s 2d to 17s 6d. At the commencement an odd pen of ewes was passed, but as the sale progressed these were disposed of privately, and by the end of the day a good clearance was effected.
