THREAT TO TURKEY

HITLER’S SUPPOSED AIMS THIS YEAR. FACTOR OF OIL SUPPLIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, February 6. Carl Sulzberger, writing in the “New York Times,” expresses the opinion that Hitler’s main offensive in 1942 will be directed toward the Caucasus and Turkey. His ultimate object will be a drive toward Basra on the Persian Gulf in order to obtain control of the oilfields. Sulzberger adds that the Soviet General Staff is confident that the Axis will exhaust all Europe’s reserve oil stocks by the end of the year.
