PLUNKET SOCIETY

MASTERTON BRANCH FIRST MEETING OF YEAR. APPEAL FOR FUNDS TO BE MADE ON MONDAY. The Masterton branch of the Plunket Society held its first meeting of the year yesterday afternoon. The president (Mrs J. Caselberg) presided. Others present were: Mesdames S. L. P. Free, N. Irwin, Sortain Smith, H. R. Keltie, J. C. Broad, A. S. Stewart, P. W. Wardell, R. C. Drummond, E. G. Eton, C. A. Carmine, E. J. Heffer, T. Jordan, J. V. Gordon, I. Bunny and J. M. Coradine. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames T. F. Watson, A. H. Falloon, E. G. Norman, J. D. O’Connor, H. Morrison, J. James, and T. C. Richardson. .A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mrs John Perry and Mr W. Judd, both of whom were life members of the society. Mrs Perry and Mr Judd were both valuable supporters of the Plunket Society and had always taken the keenest interest in the work of the local branch. Final arrangements were made for the house-to-house collection in aid of the society’s funds, which will begin on Monday, February 9. As the branch is short of funds the committee would be grateful if supporters of Plunket work will give generously. The competition for the child’s toy wagon was won by Miss E. M. Dean, Tararua Street, Masterton. Thanks were accorded to Mesdames Lord and Coomb for infant garments and Mr Sutton for chaff winnowings.

The Plunket nurse reported:—Masterton: Visits to office, adults 535, babies 520; pre-school children, 41. Visits to homes: New cases, 46; old cases, 48; pre-school children seen in homes, 14; new cases for the month, town, 17. Outstations: Mauriceville East and West, Mangamahoe, Kopuaranga,. 2 visits each; Ihuraua Valley, 1 visit. Visits to homes, new cases, 1; old cases, 25. Pre-natal section: Return visits, 6; casual, 1.
